Summer Camp COVID Operations

Current Level:

As a community, we will identify 3 “levels” or “phases” of COVID operations based on the CDC County Checker. Levels can be low, medium, or high and are determined by looking at hospital beds being used, hospital admissions, and the total number of new COVID-19 cases in an area. Our precaution levels are based on the COVID-19 Community level in the counties where our camps are located as well as from which counties or cities the majority of our campers reside.

The Levels
GREEN: Low Transmission Rates in the Counties where the camp is located AND low rates in the counties where the majority of campers reside.
YELLOW: Medium Transmission Rates in the Counties where the camp is located OR medium rates in the counties where the majority of campers reside.
RED: High Transmission Rates in the Counties where the camp is located OR high rates in the counties where the majority of campers reside.

Note: to operate fully in the GREEN level, both the camp’s county and the county where the majority of campers reside must have low transmission rate. If one or the other is currently showing higher rates then we may adjust the camp phase to the higher level.

In ALL levels, campers are required to provide proof of up-to-date vaccination OR a negative COVID test 72 – 48 hours prior to arrival at camp. There will be no COVID testing provided at camp; please click the button to review the 2022 Summer Camp Operations for testing locations and a detailed and full description of what it means for camp to be in each level, and how that applies to you and your camper/s.

At home tests are accepted and you can find FREE tests mailed to you at: https://special.usps.com/testkits

United Methodist Effective Camp Project

Desert Southwest Conference Camp & Retreat Ministries is so excited to have Potosi Pines and Mingus Mountain chosen to participate in an exciting research project called the United Methodist Effective Camp Project. The study is designed to assess the impact of the summer camp experience and we are one of more than 20 United Methodist camps participating this summer.
As part of this study, campers may be asked to complete a short questionnaire on the first and last days of camp. These are very short and can be filled out in about 5 minutes so as not to take away from the camp experience. A third questionnaire will be sent to campers after they return home from camp.
No names or other identifying information of campers will be used in any research documents or publications and parent/guardian permission will be requested when you register your camper.
Please note: There is no penalty or reward for participation or non-participation, it is totally voluntary. We are excited to see the awesome results and appreciate your help! If you’d like to learn more  about the United Methodist Effective Camp Project, check out their website: effectivecamp.com
